My grandfather, Harry or Pop, is going to die soon. That’s ok. He has led a full and outstanding life. He played minor league baseball and was offered a contract in the major leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers, although he declined. He ran a massive paper factory in New York City. Graduated from NYU when he was 20. He was also an FBI agent, and he cherished his family — his wife Ruth and his twin boys Roy and Glenn. What motivated me to write this blog is what I just read in my father’s email about Pop’s health, which is poor. He stated, “It’s clear to me that in some sort of instinctive way, Pop is just shutting his body down, and maybe that’s okay, given the fact that there’s practically no quality left in his life.” This begs the question, “If there is no quality in your life, should you be alive?” Just something to think about.
